Update
The first runnable Apple TV slideshow
I have the first complete shape of the Apple TV slideshow running. It can play a rotation, open real Settings, remember choices, ask for Photos access, and handle the ordinary states around playback—all from across the room rather than from a developer console.
Changelog
- Added the first runnable Apple TV fake-media slideshow prototype.
- Added playback states for normal media, loading, empty results, pause, navigation, and session timeout.
- Added the first full Settings side panel for the Apple TV slideshow prototype.
- Added staged source, filter, playback, and help controls with a Remote Guide entry.
- Saved slideshow preferences now come back after reopening the Apple TV prototype.
- The Remote Guide can now be dismissed for one launch or hidden on future launches.
- The Apple TV prototype now has an internal Send Logs to Developer action in Help.
- Diagnostics reports are designed to avoid photos, videos, thumbnails, filenames, album names, and precise location metadata.
- The Apple TV prototype now has its first Photos-backed slideshow provider path.
- The app now shows a clear Photos access screen before playback when permission is missing or insufficient.
- A fake-media fallback remains available for local testing when Photos access is not available.
- The Apple TV prototype now has simulator-first validation evidence for its internal v1 flow.
- Local validation can start the app in repeatable fake-media and Photos-unavailable states.
- Physical Apple TV Photos and iCloud behavior remains intentionally unclaimed until device testing is available.
- Settings now receives focus reliably in the Apple TV simulator when opened from playback or Photos access states.
- Keyboard testing is smoother: arrow keys move through Settings, Enter/Return selects Settings controls, and background controls no longer receive accidental selections.
- The simulator runbook now includes a manual Fake playback flow, including the key Filters step needed when No media appears.
- Date Range choices in Filters are now readable full labels instead of truncated segments.
- Custom date ranges now show full Start and End dates and include Month, Day, and Year editing screens.
- Custom ranges stay valid and include the selected end date as a full calendar day.
- Filters now opens to a clearer category list with Timeframe, Photos, Videos, and Live Photos.
- Timeframe now contains the date range choices, keeping custom Start and End date editing grouped with the date filter.
- Local simulator testing can now use real exported media dropped into local-sample-media.
- The simulator local source supports flat mixed Photos exports and ignores common sidecar files.
- Local Samples launches now reset stale filters and show aggregate validation counts so simulator checks are easier to trust.
- Local Samples simulator launches now reset stale filters so mixed exported media is visible by default.
- Local Samples validation now shows aggregate counts and avoids falling back to fake artwork when local files are unavailable.
