Aftercurrent gameplay in Ashvale, with a red electric bike, weathered buildings, trees, and a live minimap

What it is

Aftercurrent is the electric motocross game my kiddo and I are building together. It's a third-person game with a whole abandoned city to explore. Each seed creates a roughly one-mile-square world with hills, downtown streets, neighborhoods, industrial areas, parks, and scattered wrecks and ruins.

The playable Mac prototype has keyboard-controlled riding, assisted balance, suspension and traction, wheelies, rear-brake skids, powered slides, jumps, and airborne tricks. Land cleanly to bank the points; find a better line and try again. A riding minimap and a larger city map help us explore, and we can return to a city by reusing its seed.

The riding has improved through hands-on iteration. The next focus is making the city convincing: buildings that fit the hills, believable decay and overgrowth, and debris that looks and rides the way its shape suggests. The current environment is still prototype art, and the newer district work is in progress.

This is a personal project, currently tested on my Mac. Intact buildings remain closed, and controller support, other platforms, and public distribution are still ahead.

Why it exists

My kiddo and I decided to create a game together. He wanted it to be electric motocross, so that's what we're building. It's a fun project for us to work on together.
